TITLE:                        Applications Scientist: Electrical and Industrial SPM Focus

DEPARTMENT:        AFM Development Applications    

REPORTS TO:          Director of AFM Development Applications

LOCATION:               Santa Barbara, CA

 

 

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITES:

This position has 5 primary responsibilities:

 

1)     Provide scientific application and technical expertise in the definition, validation, and release of winning products and new growth market adoption in the area of SPM electrical/electrochemical characterization and industrial applications.

 

2)     Engage in collaborations that align and enable our market, product, and technology roadmaps – specifically in areas such as the development of SPM electrical and electrochemical characterization, data storage, and new vertical industrial markets.

 

3)     Be an active participant and evangelist in the scientific SPM community by carrying out cutting edge AFM research, and communicating your work in scientific conferences, presentations, papers, application notes, and Bruker activities.

 

4)     Expand our technology’s reach into new research and vertical industrial markets and enable our customer’s productivity, by creating and leading content rich, highly interactive customer trainings through webinars, on-site courses, community forums, and self-serve knowledge bases.

 

5)     Dynamically apply our world-class expertise to AFM’s global, tactical and strategic priorities (from Demos, to VOC), and through our actions and spirit, reclaim our position as the unrivaled performance leader.

                         

It is required that all information garnered through these efforts be fully distributed to all relevant personnel, and to this end, the position will use Marcom, Product Management, and the Bruker Channel to deliver technical content, and to deploy knowledge.

 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

 

·      Serve as final authority in the targeted electrical and industrial SPM applications areas to ensure development of market winning products and for any escalated situation, sales or scientific.

·      Visit customers to disseminate research and application results, identify new opportunities for research and vertical industrial applications, enhance Bruker’s reputation, and gain first hand competitive and market information.

·      Design and implement a strategic portfolio of relationships within University, Government and Industrial research SPM and non-SPM electrical characterization leaders.

·      Engage the research community to keep our online centers vibrant (Webinar, Forum, etc.)

·      Quarterly review and presentation of collaborative and competitive results.

 

 

PHYSICAL/ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

 

25-35% travel required.

Ability to lift, move, wire, reconfigure, and find customer solutions with ease.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

 

Expert product knowledge of Bruker’s Scanning Probe Microscope operation

Master AFM user and broad based proficiency in science

Excellent written and verbal skills

Ability to organize, participate in, and influence collaborative groups of 3-5 scientists

Presentation skills

 

EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

 

Ph.D. degree in physics, chemistry, engineering, or equivalent.

5+ years Scanning Probe Microscopy Applications Experience required

Track record of peer reviewed publications.

Deep & hands-on knowledge of nanoscale electrical characterization and industrial SPM applications
