I have done scan Asyst once in the past with little problem. Z range size of 1.2um to 1.6um. And scan size of 50um. I was using one of the NSC36 http://www.spmtips.com/nsc/36/co-cr

I was able to do 24 scans in 6 different samples no problem

But now I have similar sample I tried the same tip but it was wasted. I decided to give a go at the Scan Asyst Air tips that we had. As well as other tips but they all ended up changing the scan speed to the minimum and the tip protection activated: please withdraw and align laser message.

I thought it was an issue with the noise threshold so I increased it to 2nm with same results.

I ended up doing normal contact mode which so far has given me no problems.

Any idea as to what I might have been doing wrong for future reference?

Andres,

It’s tough to troubleshoot this problem more without actually seeing the data.

I saw in your profile you are in the UK so I contacted our local Apps Scientist, Ian Armstrong, who said he knew you. He will be at NPL a couple weeks and said he would contact you offline to set up a visit to see your problem first hand.

If you need something sooner we can set up a session where we can take remote control of your system, but the in-person sessions are always better. Let me know: sminne@veeco.com

Yes, Ian contacted me. I'll see him in the next couple of weeks. Thanks!
