Surfaces Division
It is hard to believe that our transition to Bruker Nano Surfaces Division is quickly approaching six months. The synergies and support of becoming part of a company solely focused on delivering leading and performance driven scientific instruments is already being realized. Incorporating our team and facilities proved to be a very smooth transition for our customers and allowed for the seamless and continual development of a wide array of innovative new products. Burker is committed to customer service, new technologies and R&D. This support has empowered the redoubled efforts in our continued quest to deliver groundbreaking Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) solutions that will help refine how we use AFM technology and reshape the world in which we live.

In the fourth quarter of 2009 we released of our groundbreaking PeakForce™ QNM, a new imaging mode, based on our exclusive PeakForce Tapping™ technology. PeakForce QNM allows quantitative nanomechanical mapping of material properties, including modulus and adhesion, while simultaneously imaging sample topography at high resolution. Further to supporting our goal and efforts to create ease-of-use, we released ScanAsyst™. This mode technology utilizes intelligent algorithms to automatically and continuously monitor image quality, and to make the appropriate parameter adjustments.

In November of 2010 we released a new generation of AFM modes and measurement modules that transform Bruker's AFM systems into turnkey solutions for nanoscale characterization in renewable energy research. The most significant of these new AFM accessories, the PeakForce TUNA™ module, enables very high resolution nanoelectrical characterization on fragile samples, including organic photovoltaics, lithium ion battery composites, and carbon nanotube–based device structures. PeakForce TUNA represents a significant advance in our continued drive to expand AFM technologies to energy markets by addressing customer needs for quantitative nanoscale characterization.

In addition to innovative new products and solutions, Bruker is committed to delivering unsurpassed customer support and service. Their continued support and investment in the Nano Surfaces Division has allowed us to further advance and grow our worldwide customer service team along with infrastructure to increase on-hand parts and lower delivery time. It's been a great six months, and it is only the beginning as we build on our leadership position and continue in our quest to advance AFM performance and its application to new industries.

We are poised to announce more groundbreaking advancements during the second quarter of this year and release additional products that will further push the boundaries of AFM technologies. I would like to thank our customers and the hard work of every member of the Nano Surfaces Division team for making this transition seamless, and look forward to the great things to come.
