Scanning Probe Microscopy is one of the major tools responsible for the emergence of Nanotechnology. The symposium will gather leading SPM researchers in order to discuss the latest advances of scanning probe microscopy in various frontier areas of material science, nanoscience, biophysics and nanotechnology. Symposium topics include:

  • SPM applications in electronic devices (metals, semiconductors and dielectrics)
  • Atomic and nanoscale manipulation and assembly of nanostructures
  • Chemical identification of atoms and molecules, including nano and bio-sensors
  • SPM studies of organic electronics, organic materials and devices
  • SPM applications in biophysics, medicine and bionanotechnology
  • SPM analysis of biointerfaces and biomaterials
  • Novel developments in SPM techniques: theory, instrumentation and applications.
  • Combining SPM and photonics

Invited speakers: C. Gerber (University of Basel, Switzerland), A. Heinrich, (IBM, Almaden, San-Jose, USA), L. Eng, (Technical University Dresden, Germany), H. Li (University of British Columbia, Canada), R. Hillenbrand, (Nanoscience Center, Donostia & San Sebastian, Spain), I. Sokolov (Tufts University, USA), C. J. Villagomez-Ojeda (Instituto de Fisica, UNAM, Mexico), P. M. Vilarinho (University of Aveiro, Portugal).

Organizing committee:  Mervyn Miles, University of Bristol, UK; Zoya Leonenko, University of Waterloo, Canada; Eric Finot, University of Burgundy, Dijon, France; Margarita Rivera, Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico, Mexico.
