I recently sent in our Multimode 8 for repair (the screen was malfunctioning), with the most likely cause being overheating from the thick foam "boot" we place over the entire set up. The boot is essentially just a capped cylinder that can be placed over the entire AFM. Generally this boot helps to reduce the noise from the environment (the air conditioning cycles frequently in my building), but I'm nervous about damaging the instrument again by using it.
Does anyone have any suggestions for a fix? Currently our set up is a vibration platform on top of a vibration table, but other than that we're not using anything to block out ambient noise.
Hi Char135,
I'm not sure if I was the only who took care of your case from the Service.
Due to the size of the MM system, acoustic noise is not a big concern generally, unless you're doing high resolution imaging. The cylindrical cover should not cause heat issue. Let me double check with our Production.
Can you leave an email here? Or can you send an email to AFM.Support@bruker.com or call +1 800-873-9750.
Thanks,
Teddy
