SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
The AFM Software group at Veeco Metrology in Santa Barbara is looking for a Software Engineer to design and develop software for the operation of our world leading Atomic Force Microscopes. You will be responsible for working closely with scientists, engineers and management on the full spectrum of software development from hardware interfaces and instrument control to software application design. You will design, program, and modify software enhancements for new nano-scale Research and Production Control metrology tools based on atomic force microscopy technology. You may interact with users to define system requirements and/or necessary modifications.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Develop with modern production level software tools and systems with C# and C++ using object-oriented languages and techniques.
2. Provide new designs for real-time, non-real time, and intuitive interactive software systems to implement new modes of operation.
3. Requires a thorough working knowledge of Windows XP/Windows 7 using MFC, WPF and .Net using multi-threaded programming.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Position requires 5 to 8 years of experience in software engineering and development. Prefer at least 5 years experience in control systems, instrumentation equipment, robotics, digital signal processing, or instrumentation software development. Experience in metrology, physics, chemistry, microbiology also desired.
ADDED CONSIDERATION:
1. Experience in real-time control of Automation, Vision, motion control, digital signal processing, hardware interfaces, visually appealing and interactive GUIs.
2. Deploy numerical and statistical analysis techniques to derive quantitative performance requirements for customer applications.
3. Develop algorithms and analysis systems using modeling and simulation tools including modern production level software tools and systems.
4. Experience with SEMI standards and semiconductors manufacturing equipment software applications is a plus.
5. Experience with component-based software, architecture layering and systems programming.
6. Ability to work with cross-functional teams including communicating and publishing plans, designs and visions.
EDUCATION:
Qualified candidate should possess a BS degree (prefer MS or PhD) in Computer Science, or engineering, physics or a related field.
