  • How is Height Calculated in Peak Force QNM

Hello, I was wondering how exactly is height calculated in peak force QNM. I measure rubber blends that have been mechanically prepared so that they are as flat as possible. Except, no matter what, I always see a height differential corresponding to the two different phases of the material as shown in the other channels of the image. Is there a height

  • Indentation Control in Peak Force QNM

Hello, I was wondering if there was any way to make an indentation depth-controlled QNM experiment. I understand this kind of defeats the purpose of "peak force" control, but one of the issues I'm having with looking at two phase materials is that the tip indents too deep into one phase (d > R), but if I lower the peak force, it becomes

  • Issue with tuning/calibrating 650N/m tip

Hello, I've been having issues with tuning and calibrating the spring constant of a 650N/m tip on the Bruker Dimension icon system. The manufacturer says the resonance frequency of the tip is around 700-750kHz However, when trying to tune (in tapping mode), there is no real obvious peak that appears (scanning from 500kHz to 1MHz). It does zone in

  • Re: Streaking in QNM

Hi Denis, Using a RTESPA the 200N/m kind on the Dimension Icon Im not sure about the laser, since it happened to me the other day, and didn't happen again the next time, Just curious as to what causes this and how to prevent it in the future.

  • Streaking in QNM

Hello, I seem to sometimes find a streaking artifact in my QNM images that is absent in height images. See attached scans of Styrene-Butadiene Rubber w/ Carbon Black Particles. Any idea what it could have caused this? Deformation Map Adhesion Map Log DMT Height Map- No streaking

  • Tip radius Quantification and "Tip Image Size" on Deep indents

Hello, I use AFM on very viscoelastic rubbery materials. This results in very deep indentations (100-200nm). My question is, is the tip radius check using the roughness sample acurrate to these indentations? I also realize that the parameter "tip image size" when altered can also change the value of the tip radius estimation that it gives

  • Re: 200N/m Deflec

Thank you so much for your response How do you run the HSDC at the resonance frequency? According to the manual, it says Amplitude monitoring occurs at 500kHz. How do you adjust this? Also, how do you switch off the drive frequency in the middle of a capture?

  • Free Air Amplitude in Tapping Mode

Hello, I need to conduct some tapping mode experiments that require the knowledge of the ratio: A/A0 where A0 is the free amplitude of the cantilever oscillation in air, and A is the amplitude when in contact with the sample. How do you find A0? I thought it was the drive amplitude, but that is described as "the amplitude of the voltage applied

  • 200N/m Deflec

Hello, I do a lot of QNM experiments of my research. Typically, I use the RTESPA series. Out of the 3 I use (5N/m, 40N/m, 200N/m), I find the calibration of the 200N/m the hardest to get consistent numbers for. Which is kind of a pain, since the research I do requires very accurate values of Modulus measurements. Below are Deflection Sensitivity checks
