  • Re: Wear resistant C-AFM tips

Hi Gerard, If you are looking for wear resistant conducting probes, DDESP is the right choice. Unfortunately, they are available with only 2.8N/m and 40 N/m k. You can use conducting probes with Pt/Ir coating. Pt/Ir coating will not be as hard as diamond but will have significantly better wear resistance than Pt coated ones. Again, Bruker sells only

  • Re: AFM tips for TERS

Stefan, You are right. If he deposits a thin layer of AlF3 or any low n dielectric between tip and Ag, it should enhance the TERS signal. For some reason most of the research articles use SiN probes but I guess with the said approach any tip will be good. Thanks Rakesh

  • An interesting approach for C-AFM tip

Steve and Mayur, Thanks for the links. While scanning through the Nature nanotechnology issue, I found a very interesting paper on C-AFM tip. Researchers at Stanford have achieved an order of resolution improvement by making a nanofilament at the end of tip, an interesting apporoach worth a read. Here is the link. http://www.nature.com/nnano/journal

Hi, Further addition to Stephens reply. If your excitation wavelength is very small (<600), usually SiN tips are preferred over Si tips as the enhancement factor of Si tips is too low at lower excitation. Conventional Si tips are heavily doped and have much lower resistivities than undoped Si. If ohmic junctions are formed between Ag nanoparticles
