Hey Teddy, Just send out that email. Here is an example height image of what we are seeing. -eric

  • poor trace/retrace matching

Hello, We are using an icon AFM system and the height trace/retrace is matching up really poorly in tapping mode afm. In addition, the edge of height images are blurry/stretched out (same side no matter the scan angle). Nothing improves when you decrease the set point. The lift mode is NOT enabled so that's not the issue. Does anyone have an idea

  • Re: What happens between trace and retrace?

Hi Luis, I know it's been quite a while since you posted this question, but did you ever figure out why you are getting images with "strange borders". We might be having the same issue. Our issue is that only on ONE side the image is blurred and the trace/retrace overlap is really poor (seems offset). Does anyone have an idea about what

  • Scanning/scanner issue with INNOVA AFM (tapping mode)

Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE We have a scanning issue with our Innova AFM. Everything seems to operate normally regarding aligning the laser and setting everything up, but when we engage under tapping mode it appears as if the scanner is jumping around, especially during scanning and POSSIBLY during the engaging mainly after the piezo

  • Re: Problem Engaging in STM Mode

I am not totally sure, but I feel like this used to happen to me sometimes at random. It was a while ago when I was doing STM in ambient conditions, but I think usually it seemed to be a small fiber that was on the tip or if you are running STM in ambient air, then maybe a small amount of water on your sample. If you are using a multimode system, then

  • Driving tip oscillation externally with signal generator

Hello, We have an innova AFM. We are interested in possibly driving the AFM tip in tapping mode with an external signal generator instead of the internal signal generator. We would need to do this during autotune to find the resonant frequency and image scanning. I was told that it might be possible to run the AFM in tapping mode but insulate the connections

  • Re: drifting in successive height scans

Hey Stefan, Thanks for your response. We don't do anything special to stabilize temperature. The room temperature is under thermostat control and it seems to be pretty stable. We have tried lowering the scan rate from 1.5Hz to 1Hz to minimize drift, but it doesn't seem to have a signficant impact. We do suspect that the tip gets heated up from

  • drifting in successive height scans

Hello, We have an Innova SPM and have it setup to do scattering NSOM measurements simultaneously while the microscope is in Tapping AFM mode. The area under the tip gets excited with an IR laser and we use the tip to scatter off the near-field signal. The problem we encounter is x, y drift, which really seems to affect the quality of the data because
