Has anyone tried attaching a borosilicate ball to  a triangular cantilever (.58n/m stiffness) to take measurements (friction) on a substrate like silica (1,0,0). Even without the ball and a regular tip the vertical sum signal starts increasing in the positive direction before it actually engages.

Also when scanning, increasing the set point causes the ZCP values to fluctuate wildly. Has anyone seen this problem or had problems with such a cantilever?

Thanks,

Dave

Could it be that you have a lot of charging going on between your tip and sample? If so you may want to try discharging them and attempt to ground.
