We are noticing an engage behavior problem when using a soft cantilever (Bruker MSNL-C, f0 = 6-10 kHz, k = 0.01 N/m) on a Dimension 3000 system, NS3 controller in contact mode, running v.5.x software: There is an audible sound as if your driving a cantilever with the z-piezo, e.g. using a wet mode contact holder, when the system attempts to engage the

Tim, The PFM I have done at temperature has been using high quality MBE grown samples so we did not have much to degas. We have able to maintain a scan across 100C without experiencing too much loss of reflectivity. I was not looking for it so as long as I was getting a good scan I would not have noticed any degradation. You might try degassing your

Tim, I have done the procedure the others have described at temperatures above 100C with success. The issue is that you can contaminate your probe can be contaminated with whatever is coming off your surface. It is not yet a procedure we have standardized but we have done it a few times. If you would like to discuss this further please let me know.

Xiaoqian, The 1.7V RMS is when your tip is oscillating in free space. As you approach your surface the oscillations are reduced resulting in a smaller amplitude. The tip should approach the surface until you reach the 'Amplitude Setpoint', which in your case appears to be 1.2V. You are correct, tuning is to find the proper drive frequency. Changing
