I'd like to recommend those 2 papers from Pr. Oberleithner, Muenster, Germany. 2 nice studies on the Catalyst about the effects of membrane potential and salt (respectively) on the stiffness of living endothelial cells:

1) "Membrane potential depolarization decreases the stiffness of vascular endothelial cells"

Callies et al., J. Cell Sci 124 (2011) 1936-1942

2) 'Salt overloaded damages the glycocalyx sodium barrier of vascular endothelium"

Oberleithner et al., Pflugers Arch. - Eur. J. Physiol. (2011)
