Veeco recently released a new Perfusing Stage Incubator accessory for the BioScope Catalyst. It enables long term maintenance of cells in situ on the BioScope Catalyst. Please see the article just published in Microscopy and Analysis for more details (Link here).
Abstract Atomic force microscopy has proven itself to be a valuable technique for cell biology research. Though originally conceived as a high-resolution imaging technique, it more recently has been used to characterize cell properties (e.g. elasticity), measure binding events (i.e. with a bio-functionalized probe) and manipulate objects at the nanoscale (e.g. for mechanotransduction studies). Such work has been enabled by Veeco’s BioScope™ Catalyst™ atomic force microscope, which is uniquely equipped to integrate the functions of an AFM with those of an inverted light microscope for life sciences research applications. Having achieved a high level of integration between atomic force microscopy and light microscopy, recent attention has turned to ensuring that the unique requirements of cell biology applications are also satisfied. Providing an effective means of maintaining healthy cell cultures for extended periods of time is critical. Though life sciences AFMs have had sample heating capability for some time, these solutions have not been optimized for long duration live-cell studies, enabling perhaps only a few hours of reliable cell viability. Within the light microscopy industry, a variety of effective solutions exist in the form of both small stage incubators and larger incubation chambers that surround the entire microscope. For a variety of reasons, these existing solutions have not been easy to integrate with commercial AFMs. Veeco’s recently released BioScope Catalyst Perfusing Stage Incubator has now filled this gap, enabling comparable long-duration culture of cells while maintaining full compatibility with the AFM.

Please also refer to our brochure for the Perfusing Stage Incubator, which I just posted under the Brochures section here.
The brochure gives more information about the capabilities and specifications of the accessory and also gives more applications examples.
