  • Re: DMT Modulus Calibration

Sheila, For the PDMS-1 the modulus value is around 2.5 MPa. The DMT model requires, amoung other criteria, a sufficient amount of both indentation and probe deflection. The TAP 525 is much to stiff to use with a 2.5 MPa sample. It will deform the sample too much without deflecting the probe. Use the ScanAsyst Air probe for measurements on PDMS-1. You

  • Re: DMT Modulus Calibration

Hi Sheila, There are several issues mentioned in your email. In order assist you better I would like to log on to your spm computer and control the microscope while we talk over the phone. Please contact me offline with your phone number so we can set something up. Regards, Mike Maybrun mmaybrun@veeco.com

  • Re: Calculating "separation" or "deformation"

Christopher, Here are some steps to follow to illustrate how scripting can be used to hold a constant deflection. The resolution of the images is poor so I've tried to highlight when appropriate. Step 1. Enter Ramp mode. Setp 2. Click on the icon circled in red to open the pico force environment. A new panel will appear to the right of the plot

  • Re: Calculating "separation" or "deformation"

With z closed loop turned on the system will feedback on the on the z sensor (not deflection). This will ensure that the z piezo position does not change. Assuming that nothing besides z piezo motion is causing probe deflection then the deflection would remain constant. However if the probe is curling due to thermal changes or the sample is drifting

  • Re: Calculating "separation" or "deformation"

Christopher, Calculating separation requires knowledge of how much the probe deflects vs. how much the sample deforms under the tip when the z piezo is extending. First you must calibrate deflection sensitivity on a hard surface. This teaches the software how z piezo motion translates to photo diode voltage. Calibrating deflection sensitivity on a hard

  • Re: Bioscope SZ / Dimension hybrid scanner sum-signal problem

Torbjorn, typically this type of behavior with the sum and photo detector signals indicates a problem with the head electronics or the controller. In more unusual cases it can be a dsp communication problem. Most likely a repair of one of those components will be required. Our tech support group may be able to help pin down the problem a little better

Don, I have heard the "Nio Probe" sample is good for tip radius less than 10nm (where the "tip check" sample doesn't work so well). Link is below... viewPrd.asp?idproduct=166

  • Re: Peak Force QNM - operation in liquid

Start with the PFQNM (or ScanAsyst) in fluid experiment. At least two settings that seem to require different settings are the drive amplitude and the # frames for auto config (I can't recall the exact parameter name). Typing a number other than 0 into the # frames causes an auto-config to happen after every x number of frames. This is more important

  • Re: Imaging and sizing in water

It sounds like the particles are not affixing to the substrate in water. It is probably a matter of finding the right substrate and might also depend on how the water is filtered. What type of substrate(s) have you tried so far?

  • Re: Scanning Hot Samples

There's no doubt that as the temperature changes things will shift around. For xy drift a period of time may be required for the sample stabalize at the new temperature. Typically the probe is withdrawn from the surface while the temperature is ramping. In tapping mode large temperature changes cause a shift in resonance that requires retuning the
